If you are wondering what the buzz about Quinoa, how it tastes, and how it is cooked is all about, you are in the right place.
In this post, I’ll not only tell you how it tastes but I will also be showing you how to make this superfood a part of your meals.
Quinoa is a great ingredient substitute for any dish that calls for rice, including risotto. In addition, brown rice shares a lot of nutrients with these whole-grain seeds.
Flavor Profile: Does Quinoa Really Taste Good?
This seed that originated in the Andes comes in three different colors; white red and black but have uniformity in terms of taste; they have a gritty aftertaste and a nutty flavor. With its soft texture, it is also slightly crunchy. This is quite similar to brown rice right?
How to Cook Quinoa
If you’ve ever prepared Quinoa, in any of its varieties, you know that it can be challenging to achieve the ideal fluffy texture every time, let alone determine the precise Quinoa to water ratio.
Moreover, there are cases where your cooked Quinoa ends up being bitter. Why? I will tell you.
Although quinoa is cooked like a grain, it is actually a seed. And guess who enjoys seeds? Birds. So Quinoa naturally develops a saponin-coated exterior as a defense mechanism against being eaten by birds.
Because saponin has a bitter taste, birds avoid eating it. Unfortunately, unless you take action, it will also make you reluctant to eat it.
Well, there’s a way out of this bitterness. All that is required is a quick minute or so of rinsing your uncooked quinoa in cold running water until the water is clear.
However, if you do not want to go through the rigor of washing and rewashing, I advise you get Success® Tri-Color Quinoa since it’s already being processed.
There are countless meal options because Quinoa will take on the flavor of any dressing or additional ingredients you add to it.
Anyway, One may ask if Quinoa is gluten-free. The answer is yes. Does Quinoa contain Keto? No, it doesn’t.
Is there fiber or protein in Quinoa? Of course! A cup of well-cooked Quinoa contains about 8 grams of protein plus half the amount of fiber intake recommended by health practitioners.
Additionally, it is delicious on its own as a filling side dish rich in minerals and all 9 amino acids that your body can’t produce on its own.
Now that we have settled the Health Benefits problem, let’s now discuss recipes. Sounds fun right? Let’s go!

Going Further in this lesson, we’ll demonstrate how to cook your Quinoa on various appliances including the stovetop, microwave, and Instant Pot.
You won’t ever have to worry about quinoa being overcooked, undercooked, crunchy, or mushy again if you follow these instructions.
Methods For Cooking Your Quinoa Appropriately.
After reading this section, you will never worry about preparing overcooked, undercooked, crunchy, or squishy Quinoa ever again. All your attempts henceforth will be superb.
Stove Method of Preparation.
- 1. Begin with 4 cups (1 quart) of the liquid of your choice; to change up the flavor, replace water with 1 cup of broth, plant-based milk, or juice.
- 2. Put one bag of Success® Quinoa in the mixture and heat it until it boils.
- 3. Cook without the lid for ten minutes.
- 4. You’ll be sure to make delicious quinoa recipes if you take the quinoa out of the bag and fluff it with a fork.
- You may not have a stove but perhaps, you have a microwave. Do you want to know how to microwave quinoa?
Microwave Method of Preparation.
- Put 1 bag of Success® Quinoa in a microwave-safe dish with 4 cups (1 quart) of water or your preferred liquid.
- While in the Microwave, put on High for 15 minutes.
- Simply take the bag out of the microwave, and you’re ready to eat it as a side dish or as part of a more elaborate meal.
- Keep in mind that different microwaves operate differently, so keep an eye on yours as you cook.
Instant Pot Method of Preparation
- Simply add a bag or two of Quinoa and the necessary cooking liquid to the Instant Pot to begin cooking the grain.
- On high heat, select the “Sauté” setting and bring it to a boil. Boil for 10 minutes with the lid off.
- With a fork or tongs, remove the bags and use them in your favorite recipe or as a side dish.
Note: Because Success® Quinoa is so simple and quick to make, we advise cooking the other ingredients in the Instant Pot until nearly done before adding the quinoa.
If your recipe calls for cooked quinoa, cook the grain as directed on the package, then just cut open the bag and stir in the recommended quantity of precooked quinoa.
If your recipe calls for uncooked (straight from the bag) quinoa, make sure you also add the recommended amount of cooking liquid.
Crockpot Method of Preparation
Success® Tri-Color Quinoa is already cooked and dehydrated, and it rehydrates in just 10 minutes.
It is advised to incorporate cooked quinoa toward the end of the cooking process because crock pot recipes call for several hours of cooking.
Make sure to include 3/4 cup of hot liquid for each bag of uncooked quinoa if the recipe calls for it.
We advise only using the HIGH setting when cooking uncooked quinoa in the crockpot.
For every Boil-in-Bag of quinoa, add 34 cups of water, and cook for 20 minutes.
