    The City of Dalton is the Seat of Whitfield County in the far north of Georgia, on the State’s border with Tennessee. Like many of its kind in the southeast part of America, it developed around a rail depot sometime in the 18th century. 

    This followed the forceful removal of the natives that dwelt there at the time. It wasn’t long after that that the city endured the heat of two Civil war battles. 

    As such the city is said to have more Civil war artifacts than anywhere else in the whole of America in addition to its rich cultural heritage and attractions stationed to make tourists and Visitors have a good time in the city.

    1. Creative Arts Guild

    A place for many things ranging from art exhibitions hosted in its gallery to musical performances and concerts and finally gym services. The place is said to be the oldest arts organization in all of the State of Georgia. Go check it out!

    2. Dug Gap Battle park

    This site of a Major Battle is one of Dalton’s civil war relics. The setting reminds the general public of the massive destruction caused by the war. 

    This site has the remains of breastwork built by soldiers during the union push towards Atlanta further to the South.  The Dug Gap Battle Park in itself was used as a defensive mechanism to hold back the unionist forces.

    Explore the sites that were once a battleground and climb to the peak for the greatest view of Whitfield County.

    3. Western and Atlantic Railroad Depot

    Western and Atlantic Railroad Depot

    Constructed in the 1850s, the railway remains the oldest serving commercial structure in the state. This depot was one of the sites involved in the unionist raid known also as the Great Locomotive Chase that took place during the American Civil War.

    Just a little distance from Dalton, the Raisin wood mountain Bike Trail provides an alternative way of getting into the great outdoors. It contains seven individual courses for Mountain bikers of all ages and abilities.

    6. Dalton’s Fall Fun Centre

    Here, you will find a variety of activities including 27- a hole miniature golf course complete with waterfalls and ponds. It Football field is the outdoor location for laser tag while the center also has bumper cars that can be enjoyed by all.

    7. Blunt House

    Built in the 1840s, it’s an elegant white building and was the house of Ainsworth Emery Blunt who was the city’s first mayor and postmaster. 

    At some point, it became a hospital for the unionist army during the civil war. It was also occupied by the Confederate forces until the Blunt family was allowed to return. Now, it’s a historic monument.  

    It’s indeed  Dalton’s Oldest house that you’ve got to see. Trust me when I say so… 

    8. Conasauga River

    You’d like this River. Trust me when I say so… It’s about 150km in length and is home to about 90 different species of fish. 

    Its bank can be reached by car or foot via a number of hiking trails. The area is also a natural habitat for White-tailed deer and black bears. 

    The area can be explored on the waters themselves, thanks to two canoe ramps that provide yet another way to discover everything the area has to offer.

    The Dalton Utilities Canoe Launch is the closest, located just a few kilometers from downtown Dalton.

    9. Dalton’s Distillery

    This Distillery was born out of a family hobby and remains a family affair. In its uniqueness, it uses Sunflower seeds, not the usual grains in making its Spirits. It, however, began with a corn Whiskey Recipe.

    Go and grasp the rest of the story in one sip of their varying beverages. 

    10. Hunter Museum of American art

    situated located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, its collection is focused on a variety of American Artistic styles such as the Hudson River school from the early 19th century and the early modernism of the first decades of the 20th century.

    11. Prater’s Mill Historic Site

    You’ve got to check out the Grist Mill at this place Constructed in 1855 on the banks of the coahulla Creek and the Cohutta Chattahoochee Scenic Byway, a driving route that’s 80km long.

    Fishing in the waters of this lake is allowed. What’s more paddling too is allowed. All you have you do is rent a Canoe or Kayak.

    Burr Park was founded by a lady named Jeanne Burr with the purpose of creating a special space for Dalton’s artistic scene. 

    Burr Park, which is conveniently located in the city center, is a green park featuring an amphitheater and a stage. 

    There are also several food trucks and other types of vendors throughout the park. The nicest part is that the location is open all year.

    14. Dalton Freight Depot and Visitors Center

    Tourists will be treated to an array of exhibits depicting trains utilized from the Civil War time up to the early Railroad Era at the Dalton Freight Depot and Visitors Center. There is also a gift shop on the site where you may purchase mementos. 

    Visitors can then proceed to the train-viewing platform, where they can watch trains from the CSX and Norfolk-Southern Railways pass in a diamond pattern in front of the depot.

    Visiting this historical landmark is one of the most enjoyable things to do in Dalton.

    15. Whitfield-Murray Historical Society

     The Whitfield-Murray Historical Society was founded in the 1950s in order to restore the historic Vann House. 

    This society’s mission is to preserve history and document the many landmarks in Whitfield and Murray counties. 

    The organization protects various local historical properties from destruction due to neglect. These include historic places such as Hamilton House, Blunt House, and Dug Gap Battle Park, among others.

    The historic sites house a variety of historical documents that are not available elsewhere, such as genealogical research materials, history books, stock certificates, and many others. 

    This makes it one of the most exciting places to be in Dalton, Georgia. 

    16. Bandy Heritage Center Museum
