1. Ventura Pier and Promenade

4. Serra Cross Park, Ventura, California
Father Junipero Serra, a Spanish missionary who established Mission Basilica San Buenaventura in 1782, blessed the area and erected a wooden cross there. The cross was intended to act as a signpost for drivers trying to find the mission. Although the original cross was repeatedly destroyed by the elements, it was never forgotten.
On 107 acres donated to the City by Kenneth and Tonie Grant, the locals not only replaced it but also expanded the original area where it stood to create Serra Cross Park in 1918. The current park has undergone improvements and landscaping over the years and is now a popular location for taking in the view of the city below or watching the sunset over the ocean.
5. Surfers Point Beach

8. Ventura To Ojai Paved Bike Path

15. Olivas Adobe
The Olivas Adobe in Ventura, California, was constructed by Raymundo Olivas in 1841 as a result of receiving a land grant from Juan Alvarado.
The first adobe house was doubled in size in 1849, making it the only structure of its kind in the vicinity. The El Jardin (Garden) Patio building was envisioned as one of Southern California’s first outdoor shopping centre. El Jardin appears to be the only shopping court constructed in Ventura, despite the fact that the style was very common in the 1920s.
The two-story building is still largely the same as it was originally intended to be, with shops and offices opening onto an interior courtyard. A substantial archway on Main Street opens into a three-level courtyard with a well-kept landscape.
The wood-trimmed stucco building has mission tile, carved wooden spools, beams, and brackets, large multi-paned arched windows, and wrought iron railing and lamps. Brick tile has been used to replace some of the original tiles. The appearance of a “Spanish Village” is improved by the use of low-pitched tile parapets and flush tile roof lines.
The street level’s arched front entrances and side windows were removed and replaced with sizable display windows in the 1950s. For G. W. Chrisman and W. B. and Mary Alpin, El Jardin Patio was created in 1925 by the renowned Los Angeles architectural firm Weber, Staunton, and Spalding.
For many years, the Alpins owned and operated La Floresia, a flower shop on the west side of the courtyard. In the back of the courtyard, their son William Alpin, a photographer for Sunset Magazine, had a studio.
The Jack Rose Smart Shop, the first store in town to sell women’s off-the-rack clothing, was one of El Jardin’s first tenants. East of the archway on Main Street, this shop was located.
Jack Rose, a supporter of Main Street establishments, opened his first Ventura store in 1925 and ran a Main Street establishment until his passing in 1955. In order to house his shop, he constructed the art deco Jack Rose Building on the northwest corner of Main and Chestnut Streets in 1948.
